The first couple of months of 2020 were pretty much like the first couple of months were in 2019.

Then, at the end of February, there was an extra day because of Leap Year, and… oh, and my wife and I risked the lives of everyone we know by throwing a big party.

You see, we got married 12 years ago on a Leap Year weekend and had a BBQ for our rehearsal dinner on February 29th. So we decided that every four years we’d invite everybody to get together again. Because it’s an adorable thing to do. Here is a graphic representation prepared by our niece…

Our 4th Quadrennial Leap Year BBQ party, just like our 3rd, was planned years in advance. People traveled. People went straight from full airplanes to packed bars, restaurants, and eventually crowded into our house for a long night of close-quarters catching up, sharing finger-food, and breathing the same air.

We did literally all the things which, just a few days later, we all knew were the worst possible things we could have done.
